Two of the men in this street scene were enjoying a deep conversation while the third looked away, maybe only for a second. I captured the reference photo on a sidewalk in Madrid Spain nearly forty years ago. I always liked their poses but the setting was bland so I transposed them into another location, the medieval village of Sepulveda, in Segovia Province. Typical of Spanish villages, Sepulveda has a long fascinating history. Among other claims to fame, it was the site of a Napoleonic battle during a campaign that brought the word ‘guerilla’ into the world’s vocabulary.
