Description
This adult American Bushtit (Psaltiparus minimus) flew into our garage and refused to leave. I eventually won the argument and even managed to capture a picture of him later sitting on a planter. It’s hard to emphasize the size except to point out that the painting is much larger than life. In fact, he’s perched on a board that’s only 1/2 inch thick. The bird weighs less than some hummingbirds. So small that it actually uses spiderwebs as nesting material. In the wild, I’ve seen big flocks of them take over a tree. You can hear them and see the branches move but they stay well-hidden deep inside the tree until it’s time to leave. Then, they fly out one at a time and move to another tree.
